First Attempt At Making A Baby "Gate"
Well, my loving husband spent an entire day teaching our little Annette how to climb the stairs... while this is a very admirable skill to learn it makes things difficult for Mama who is trying to get work done and cant be following little Miss up the stairs all day. So,we needed to come up with a solution for keeping Annette from climbing the stairs. Its not as simple as just buying a baby gate because our staircase has spindles on one side and a wall on the other. I decided to sew a piece of stiff duck cloth on one side and a pretty piece of material on the other that would match my soon-to-be-made couch pillows. I screwed hooks in the wall and sewed ribbon to all four corners to secure it in place. She has figured out how to climb under it :( So we are working on Attempt #2. Our plan is to add a sheet of thick plastic or foam board to the back. Anyway, here are pictures of Attempt #1!

That would be perfect! I am already $20 in on this though. So I think I need to see this idea through-lol
ReplyDeleteHi, Kitty! Audra, here. (I have no idea how to enter the blog world for commenting purposes in my own right just yet, but I can work on that...) The scenario you describe is a toughie! A thought: Perhaps you could have the foam go through the spindles on the one side to give Annette an added challenge to pulling it down. Aren't they good at keeping you on your toes? :)
ReplyDeleteThis wouldn't work for both sides, but for what it is worth: http://foxfamilyincary.blogspot.ca/2011/07/installing-baby-gate-without-drilling.html
ReplyDeleteNot to keeping bothering you, but if the hooks stick out beyond the woodwork, could you simply prop the foam board behind them on one side and behind the spindles on the other? Hopefully, she's not capable of ripping the hooks out of the wall... How desperate is she to climb those stairs? ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks for your insightful thoughts Audra! It definitely is a challenge keeping her off those stairs ;) That's a really neat idea about the installation of the baby gate with no screws. Though I dont know how we could work the wall side. The wall ends before the stairs do which adds to the trickiness of the situation :( I am thinking that I will try hot glueing the foam board to the fabric piece i have made and see if that works...
